5-day Training of Trainers (TOT) on Child Rights
and Child Protection Issues in Pakistan
July 27-31, 2007 Islamabad
Objectives
The main focus of the five-day training was to
build capacity of the participants as skilled
trainers and to enhance their knowledge on child
rights and child protection issues. These trainers
are expected to conduct quality trainings on issues
affecting children and will become a human resource
on child rights and child protection issues.
Detailed Report
SPARC Center for Rights of Children held a five
day Training of Trainers from July 27-31, 2007
on Child Rights and Child Protection Issues in
Pakistan. It was a diverse group comprising 19
participants. The participants came from various
organizations such as UNICEF, STEP, World Vision
International, MCLEP, PEACE Foundation, Awaz Welfare
Organization, Potohar Organization, EPS and SPARC.

The training focused on the following components:
The Trainer Characteristics, Roles and Competences
Designing training courses
Principles of adult learning and learning styles
Training techniques and methodologies
Presentation and Communication Skills
Evaluating Learning
In-depth knowledge on issues of Child Rights and
Child Protection in Pakistan including Education,
Corporal Punishment, Child Sexual Abuse, Child
Labor, Juvenile Justice, Birth Registration, UNCRC
and Legal Framework. We gave situation analysis,
scale of problems, types of abuses and lobbying
points.
Theatre was introduced as a tool to create awareness
on the sensitive issue such as Corporal Punishment.
The objective of the role play was to highlight
negative impact of corporal punishment on children.
Role play was erformed by children working with
STREET (Strengthening Rights and Equality by Empowering
Teams).
The certificate distribution ceremony was held
on the last day of the workshop. Mr. Greg Schulz
from ACILS was invited as chief guest. He presented
the certificates among the participants of the
workshop.
Resource Persons
The lead facilitators of the workshop were Mr.
Qindeel Shujaat, Executive Director SPARC, Mr
Anees Jillani, SPARC Board Member, Ms Shaista
Yasmeen, Manager Trainings & Coordination,
Mr Safdar Raza, Plan Pakistan, Mr Irfan Raza,
National Protection Manager SPARC, Ms Asiya Arif,
Officer Promotion SPARC and Mr Imran Nafees from
STREET.
Training Evaluation by Participants:
A feedback questionnaire was given to the participants
after each session. According to the feedback
received he participants were satisfied with the
overall training, course content and the facilitators.
Training was successful in meeting all its objectives.
Result
Overall result of the training was 76 %. Ms Chand
Bibi, UNICEF, Mr Imran Takker, SPARC Peshawar,
Ms Anjum Bhatti, EPS and Ms Salma from STEP scored
17 out of 20 and topped the list. The rest scored
60 % marks.
Feedback from the participants was very positive.
They said it was a comprehensive training and
covered almost all the issues relating to Child
Protection.
